1.1.1. Product Description
NDVI is a commonly used metric to assess the general health or “greenness” of plant canopy by comparing the relative difference in light reflectance at two positions in the electromagnetic spectrum – typically positions characterized by chlorophyll absorptance in the red region and the high-reflectivity region of the near infrared (NIR).
While the NDVI spectral calculation is fairly common and straightforward, SlantRange employs a more advanced approach which first segments individual vegetation pixels from pixels containing soils, weeds, or other debris in order to deliver a result that is more accurate to actual vegetation condition. For example, a commonly understood error with satellite imagery or traditional processing techniques is that “thin” vegetation areas will yield lower NDVI values due to the higher fractional content of soils in the measurement, not due to actual vegetation health condition.
SlantRange delivers multiple NDVI variants where the subscripted value represents the center of each spectral band.
